Awesome Cute little Indian restaurant..close to central park..We just happen to be looking for an indian place for dinner so we decided to give it a try! Its a cute little place ..4-5 tables downstairs n around 5-7 upstairs! Since it was early (6:30) we got seated right away! Now for the food: we started with - Lasoogni gobi - is a must to order! We also asked for papad which comes with chutneys ( complimentary) !
Main course : Malai Kofta .. Chana masala and Chicken Dum Biryani! Chana masala was tasty with a slight spice and tanginess! The Malai kofta ( my mother's favorite ) was flavorful...was mild in spiciness so its perfect for a child ( my kid ate it)
Dum Biryani arrived nice and hot n again flavorful ( my husband is very picky n it is hubby approved!)
One small complaint/concern - they need to improve the service..for some reason we felt that our waiter was not very attentive n we had to keep asking him for things! He offered all the tables papad in the beginning..we had to ask n keep asking for stuff..he never checked up on us.
Other than that- money well spent! -

We came here thanks to the high rating in Yelp and it was worth it.
The place is nicer and fancier than other Indian restaurants I've been to, but prices are still the same.
The food was really good - we had the potatoes and cauliflower, and the mixed vegetables (both vegan), but the dishes weren't as big as in other places.
Bottom line - good! -

Home-y Indian restaurant with delicious food
Our family of four dropped by for lunch recently and were very happy we did. We started with Alu Paratha, raita, papadam, and chutneys and then enjoyed a pair of vegetarian and a pair of lamb lunch specials (think Thali plates). All the food was delicious as was the Mango Lassi and tea.
Service was good, the decor relaxed, and the prices quite reasonable. In particular, the lunch specials (hidden toward the end of the menu) were something of a bargain and would be an excellent choice for a table of one or two. -

Nice family run Indian restaurant. Two floors, and we dined at the first floor, where the semi-open kitchen is in the back. All staffs are friendly.
We were recommended fish (salmon) curry and lamb with spinach. Both were very delicious. Also ordered the sweet naan with dry fruits and nuts - good as well! -

Angaar was an amazing experience. From the friendly staff, a cozy setting and most importantly some delicious dishes. I was surprisingly amazed by the food and can still taste it.
Some of the must try appetizers:
Seekh kababs were perfectly spiced minced lamb slow cooked in a tandoor. You can taste the spice without being spicy and the smoked flavor from the tandoor was great.
The paneer skewers was one f the best I have had. Creamy cubes of cheese cooked with mild spices.
Chicken 65 was so mu h better than you traditional Indian Chinese places. smokiness from the chillies and the mustard with curry leaf was just awesome.
Lasooni gobi (Cauliflower Manchurian) deep fried cauliflower stir fried in a sweet and sour sauce. I am not a vegeterian and this was one my favorite appetizer.
Must try main courses:
Cochin Shrimp curry was mouth watering good. Large prawns cooked in a dry garlic, mustard curry. You cannot pass on it.
The Dum Biryani was delicious. The crispy rice like a paella with tender juicy pieces of lamb. One of my favorite biryanis.
Malabar Fish curry was just wow. Fish was tender cooked in a coconut milk curry. Its rare that I would pass up red meat over fish, but this is a dish I would go for over and over again.
Cant wait to go back to Angaar to try the remainder of their menu. I highly recommend this place!
